Hot Brown

An open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and Mornay sauce, created at Louisville’s Brown Hotel. Serve it in small sliders for a party.

Benedictine

A cool cucumber and cream cheese spread from Louisville. Make tea sandwiches a day ahead.

Burgoo

A slow-cooked Kentucky stew of meats and vegetables. Make it the day before; it improves overnight.

Country ham biscuits

Small biscuits with thin-sliced country ham are the easiest crowd-pleaser on the table.

Bourbon balls

Chocolate, pecans and bourbon. Set them out when guests arrive.

Pecan pie

Chocolate and bourbon versions both work, and both can be baked the day before.
